What the Holidays Could do to Department Stores

Although half of the 189.6 million Black Friday shoppers visited a department store, according to the National Retail Federation, evidence shows they once again missed the mark. With department stores offering fewer deals and discounts, deal-seeking consumers are turning elsewhere. Target and Walmart, for instance, are increasingly winning due to their broader assortment and lower prices, while "apparel-driven retailers" like Kohl's, Macy's and Gap Inc. continue to under-perform.
