Target Debuted 32 New Stores in 2021, All Featuring Our *Easiest* Shopping Experience Yet

Target | December 2, 2021
A lot goes into building a new Target store. From location and product considerations to interior and exterior design, retailer listens to guests and communities every step of the way to create a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. The 32 new Target locations opened in 2021 are proof of just that, each showcasing the very latest in ease and safety, two areas Target guests say are most important, as well as local touches that reflect the new neighborhoods Target call home.
It’s all about location, and because convenience is a top priority for guests, Target has chosen locales that put Target closer to where locales live and shop. In some cases, that means using a small-format store design, so stores can flex into spaces where traditional stores might not fit, including areas like urban neighborhoods and college campuses. In fact, 28 out of the 32 new stores are small formats, tailor-fit to serve guests from the Upper West Side of Manhattan to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Target has also built localized elements into all of these stores, from the design, like a unique mural painted on the inside of Lihue Kauai store, to the assortment, like the local sports team merch at the stores on campuses. It’s all about meeting the guests where they’re at, with an easy and inspiring shopping experience that makes them feel right at home.
Same-day services are more popular than ever, and Target continues to invest in these experiences to better serve customers. That means continuing to expand the number of Drive Up spots featured at many of new stores to make shopping even easier and more convenient for guests. You’ll see more space built into the front of the Target building dedicated to Order Pickup, to help serve more guests faster. The goal? Making sure that no matter how Target customers choose to shop, they can get what you need and fast. Target guest and team member safety is top priority. Target built in the very latest in health and safety features, including additional space to accommodate social distancing and plexiglass shields at the checkout lanes. From contactless fixtures to helpful signage, Target thought of every detail so that customers can get their Target Run done easily and safely.
A visit to the new Target store wouldn’t be complete without a friendly “hello!” from the local team members. The Target team is there to make sure customers feel welcomed into their new Target home. The newest Target team members get the same enhanced training, so they can give customers expert help, from completing orders using the same-day services to finding the perfect item in tech, beauty, grocery and more.
