Ready to Weather the Storm: How Target’s Prepping for Natural Disasters During the Pandemic

A Bullseye View | August 11, 2020

Target’s here for our guests in big moments and small, day in and day out—and we’re ready to help when challenges arise. For months, we’ve invested in dozens of safety measures and leaned into convenient, contactless pickup and delivery services to help our team and guests navigate the coronavirus pandemic. Now—especially as what’s predicted to be a pretty active hurricane season approaches—we’re taking even more steps to keep our team and guests safe before, during and after natural disasters.

Safety first Target always has safety top-of-mind and has robust emergency plans in place—but prepping for hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters is even more complicated in the midst of a global pandemic. So we’re carefully adjusting our preparedness and response plans, including:

  • Investing millions of additional dollars in hurricane supplies—think more pallets of water, batteries and flashlights—while continuing to account for coronavirus needs

  • Increasing our teams’ mask supply in case of wildfires

  • Preparing to close Target stores earlier, if needed, giving our team members more time to safely evacuate their families and loved ones

  • Providing the latest guidance to team members in hurricane-prone areas to use in developing their own safety plans

Craft your plan Thinking about how you’ll keep your own family and loved ones safe in an emergency situation? These simple tips are a good place to start:

  • Sit down with your family, consider your unique situation and make a detailed plan.

  • Build an emergency kit with food, water and supplies to last at least 72 hours.

  • Download the FEMA mobile app for helpful resources before, during and after a natural disaster.
