Heritage at Heart-Here's How Target's Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Target | May 15, 2023
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month — a time to learn about, uplift and honor the AAPI community’s experiences, culture and contributions to the history and world, while recognizing the challenges the community faces. At Target, they embrace and celebrate their AAPI team members, guests and communities this month, and all year long, through our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments, by spotlighting AAPI-owned brands and by showing up for their AAPI team members and guests.
Connect. Collaborate. Transform.
That's the theme for this year's AAPI Heritage Month celebration. Their Asian Business Council —an internal group focused on championing an inclusive work environment where Asian team members find belonging and growth — is shining a spotlight on the Asian American experience through team member events and opportunities to volunteer. And through their work with partners like the Asian American Business Development Center and Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Target is showing their commitment to addressing disparity and creating safe, inclusive environments where their AAPI team members and guests can thrive.

Reflecting and progressing, together
These partnerships are so important, because they help create and sustain a culture that truly values and celebrates differences, while ensuring their AAPI team members and guests feel welcome and included at Target.
“AAPI Heritage Month offers a chance for me to pause and reflect on my journey and those who have extended helping hands along the way,” says Prat Vemana, Target’s executive vice president, chief digital and product officer. “And in return, I always try to support others, encouraging them to learn from the world around them while being true to who they are and the values and perspectives they bring. Don’t let any insecurities or an accent hold you back from sharing what you have to offer.”
Throughout the month and beyond, they'll continue to demonstrate their commitment to the AAPI community. And by uplifting stories from Target's Asian team members, finding new ways to promote a culture of understanding and appreciation, and showing their support in the fight against discrimination and injustice, they become one step closer to Target's goal of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
