An Amazon Hair Salon Is Coming To London—Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Amazon will be opening its first-ever hair salon. “We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, U.K. country manager at Amazon.
The Amazon Salon will be take over a two-story property in Spitalfields, one of East London’s trendiest retail destinations, and include high-tech spins on traditional salons. Augmented reality (AR) technology will let customers see what they will look like with different hair colors, pre-dye, and new “point-and-learn” tech which will let customers point to any product in the salon and learn more via display screen. They will then be able to scan a QR code to buy it on Amazon.co.uk.
It really couldn’t come at a better time as cut and color appointments are booked amidst the coronavirus lockdown. To meet regulations, Amazon will use separation screens between styling stations, enforce free face masks and sanitizer, and temperature check all incoming customers.
William Tunstall-Pedoe, the entrepreneur who sold his artificial intelligence (AI) start-up to Amazon, said: “I’m beginning to believe there’s no business Amazon will not enter.”
